Descripción de producto

Product Function Description

The brake wheel cylinder is a vital component of your Mitsubishi Canter‘s drum brake system. When you press the brake pedal, the brake master cylinder sends pressurized brake fluid through the brake lines to the wheel cylinder at each wheel. This pressurized fluid pushes the pistons inside the wheel cylinder outward, which forces the brake shoes against the brake drum, creating the friction that slows and stops your vehicle. For a heavy-duty commercial vehicle like the Mitsubishi Canter, which is frequently used for cargo transport, delivery fleets, and construction work, a properly functioning brake wheel cylinder is essential for safe stopping power, especially when the vehicle is fully loaded. A leaking or seized wheel cylinder causes uneven braking, increased stopping distance, and dangerous pulling to one side during braking, compromising vehicle and road safety.

When Should You Replace It?

Consider replacing your brake wheel cylinder if you experience any of the following symptoms: Brake fluid leaks visible on the inside of the rear wheels, on the brake drum, or around the wheel cylinder area. Spongy or soft brake pedal – the pedal feels mushy and less responsive. Vehicle pulls to one side when braking, requiring steering correction to stay straight. Reduced braking power – longer stopping distances than normal. Uneven or premature brake shoe wear on one side. Brake pedal slowly sinks to the floor while holding pressure at a stop. Noticeable drop in brake fluid level without external leaks elsewhere. ABS warning light or brake warning light appears on the dashboard. Scraping or grinding noise from the rear brakes. Sticking brakes – the vehicle feels like it is dragging or the rear wheels are hotter than normal after driving.

Installation Tips

Important: The brake system is a critical safety system. Professional installation is strongly recommended. Safely raise and support the vehicle. Remove the rear wheels and brake drum. Clean the brake assembly area thoroughly. Disconnect the brake line from the old wheel cylinder. Remove the mounting bolts and take out the old cylinder. Clean the brake backing plate where the new cylinder will be mounted. Install the new wheel cylinder and tighten the mounting bolts to factory torque specifications. Reconnect the brake line. Install new brake shoes if needed. Reinstall the brake drum and adjust the brake shoe clearance. Fill the brake fluid reservoir with fresh Mitsubishi-approved  brake fluid. Bleed the brake system (starting from the wheel farthest from the master cylinder) to remove all air. Critical Step: After installation, test the brake pedal – it should feel firm. Check for fluid leaks around the new cylinder connections. Test the brakes at low speed to ensure proper stopping and no pulling. Replace wheel cylinders on both sides for balanced braking performance. Professional installation is highly recommended.

Cylinders

Mitsubishi Canter owners and fleet operators often experience brake wheel cylinder failure due to: High mileage – Canter trucks often accumulate high mileage, and wheel cylinder seals wear out over time. Heavy loads – Frequent heavy cargo transport puts additional stress on the braking system, accelerating seal wear. Moisture contamination – Brake fluid absorbs moisture over time (hygroscopic), causing internal corrosion of the cylinder bore and premature seal failure. Heat exposure – Frequent braking generates heat that accelerates seal degradation. Dust and dirt – Commercial trucks operate in dusty conditions, and dirt can enter the cylinder through worn dust boots, causing piston scoring and seal damage. Age – Older vehicles have seals that naturally harden, shrink, and crack over time. This replacement wheel cylinder is designed to address all these issues with high-quality seals, corrosion-resistant bore treatment, and durable construction, offering reliable braking performance for years to come.
